Surgeon Simulator 2013 RealGamerNewz Review

Simulators have been all the rage in the past couple of years. From Goat Simulator to even a Grass Simulator, Simulators have been popping up a lot recently. While some are good and very entertaining the others are just downright random and not as great. Well here is a Simulator where bad controls meet surgical operations: Surgeon Simulator 2013 Anniversary Edition. Surgeon Simulator 2013 is probably one of the most popular simulator games out there that invoke you having to – what else?  – perform surgery in many different environments, and not all of them are the same either. One surgery has you removing and replacing a heart, another has you doing the same thing except you are in the back of a speeding ambulance.

Any environment in this game will definitely be very stressful as it has you completing these surgical tasks while having to control each finger of a hand with separate buttons. While the controls may not be the best I can kind of understand developers wanting to make a player control as much of the whole hand as possible to ensure realism without breaking the feel of the game. But unfortunately, it still kind of makes things difficult because in Surgeon Simulator 2013 your task is surgery and if you have difficulties controlling a hand as well as each separate finger, then things are going to get really, really messy as well as very frustrating for the player. This game has made many people rage but it is still very popular due to the fun of the challenge.

I have put many hours into trying to play this and I can definitely say from experience that this game is hard as hell. Although I did enjoy it quite a bit because while trying to perform these surgeries I would accidentally slice open the brain, or hammer out a lung, or even accidentally chuck a replacement heart across the room making it inaccessible. What makes it harder and more hilarious are the various scenarios you get put into. Plus, with the Anniversary Edition even more scenarios get added in.

Surgeon Simulator 2013 RealGamerNewz Review 1

One of the extra scenarios in Anniversary Edition has you taking control of the Medic from Team Fortress 2 and having to perform a heart transplant on the Heavy. I, for one, thought that was funny due to all the references in the room in which you perform the surgery. The Anniversary Edition also offers more surgeries other than just that. It also offers more environments to perform surgery in, more surgeries to complete, and much more. You can purchase Surgeon Simulator 2013 Anniversary Edition right now on Steam.

Final Verdict:

Surgeon Simulator may be one of many simulator games but I feel it is the one with the most potential. Having to complete what would normally be complex surgeries in many different scenarios definitely adds to the challenge and replay ability of the game. The downside of the game though is the shoddy controls. If you don’t mess up when picking something up you will when trying to remove a vital organ. Overall, I only recommend this simulator game if you can get passed controls that can cause a lot of frustration.
